Jewelry on the Wall

Inspired by my sister

Forging is the process that my sister Michel used to create beautiful works of art. It is the process of metal smithing that involves the use of a hammer and anvil.

Forged early pieces by Michel Royston

She was always enamored by different shapes around her, which were then transferred to metals of copper, brass, silver, gold and platinum. Her engineering and shaping of the metals then became a one-of-a-kind spectacular piece of jewelry made to fit perfectly on a specific person.

As I am now experimenting with copper, brass and nickel silver in my artwork (shown below in “Luminous”), I realized that her relationship with shapes and metal is an incredible inspiration and has become a part of me. With each ping of my hammer I think of my sister and her love for her work.
